KIPS BAY DECORATOR SHOW HOUSE NYC - THROUGH OCT 13

80 Washington Place - 1st Floor

Designed by Sarah Witkin, Founder of Bilotta Architecture, with her mother, Regina Bilotta, Partner of Bilotta Kitchen & Home, PAUSA/STARE reimagines the 51st Kips Bay Decorator Show House kitchen as the social center of the home—a place to pause, to stay, and perhaps to stare. Channeling the cinematic scene of the Italian caffè, sculptural stone, mirror, polished metal and bold color choreograph the rituals of everyday life and set the stage to see and to be seen.

DESIGN + CONSTRUCTION PROCESS

With just 2 months to conceive, place orders, and and construct the kitchen, the meticulous execution of this project was truly a collaborative effort! The design took shape from an initial sketch over the listing photos, and a desire to expand and break up a long, dark narrow space with color, form, materiality, and the reflective surface of the mirror.

A new door style was developed with Bilotta Kitchen & Home featuring their signature 1-1/4” thick door with an integrated bullnose pull. A custom blue-green stain on flat-cut oak with a matte finish was drawn from flashes of green in the stunning Artistic Tile Patagonia slabs and provides a grounding organic warmth and tactility to the design. This is balanced by the cream colored lacquered cabinetry finished in Benjamin Moore’s White Blush. Interiors are finished in BM’s Palladian blue and feature custom natural oak accessories.

Stone details fabricated by the talented Vista Stone steal the show; bullnose Patagonia edges line the curved sink counter and wrap the interior of the Naica seating counter, while perfect miters on the Patagonia cooking island give the impression of a solid volume of stone.
